CARLTON, Texas (AP) — The U.S. military judge who convicted Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in May 2010 of providing material support to al-Qaida says that the U.S. should consider leaving Guantanamo after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

U.S. District Court Judge Gladys Kessler says the U.S. should "leave the country" so terrorists could face "real trial, not the sham trials for which the government wants us to give them."

Defense lawyers for Mohammed declined to comment on her remarks Friday.

"I think that would be a grave injustice," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Friday. Rumsfeld said U.S. intelligence agencies have found no evidence Mohammed was directly involved in the 9/11 attacks. He blamed the Sept. 11 attacks on a "tiny, sub-group" of al-Qaida.

"The world needs to learn that America has no respect for their legal process," said Rumsfeld.

In her first opinion published since his ruling, Kessler said Mohammed appeared in three photographs he released to U.S. officials and at least one other detainee and that the two images appear to show him kneeling for a prayer. She also said Mohammed did not make any statements in or out of his cell during interrogations.

Kessler said the photos show that Mohammed "displayed clearly evidentiary evidence of his belief and intent to participate in the September 11 terrorist plot," and that he appeared in photographs that the FBI obtained through U.S. surveillance and "shows an obvious lack of motivation.... He appears to have thought he might be the one who went out with the mission and maybe be the one killed in the explosion."

But Mohammed's lawyer, Army Col. John Donahoe, says it is too soon to comment on the significance of those photographs. "We're going to look at that all the way through," he said.

Kessler said she also found Mohammed "frequently engaged in conversations about jihad with other detainees who appear to him to be cooperating with United States intelligence, even though they had committed no crime." She quoted three of them as saying Mohammed was working for al-Qaida.

"The picture of Mohammed's hands-on involvement, and his relationship with other detainees who appear to be cooperating with the United States intelligence, is troubling to me and makes me suspect that the detainees may be providing classified information," she wrote.

A Queensland court has dismissed a case against a former blower for the use of a product made with a plasticizer that prosecutors said harmed wildlife.

Baba Mardou, from Boonah Bay, was found guilty of cruelty against animals on Monday and sentenced to four years' jail for using a plasticizer to make balloons with gummy bubblegum blowers from a company she believed was not acting for her interest.

Baba Mardou was found guilty of cruelty to wildlife in Brisbane's Magistrates Court last year after a jury found the blowers were not acting in an official capacity for her, but were instead just for the sake of making gummy decorations.

Judge Michael Young agreed with prosecutors who had alleged the bubblegum blowers had killed and eaten dozens of endangered animals, but said it was not unreasonable for Boonah Bay to believe such devices were used to beautify the area.

"To do so is an act of cruelty against animals," Judge Young said.

Baba Mardou and the company that made the gummy balloons appealed the verdict but failed to convince Judge Young they had proved their case beyond reasonable doubt.

A panel of three Magistrates' Court magistrates in November 2015 dismissed their appeal and ordered the appeal dismissed because it was not reasonable to believe the products had been involved in killing or injuring animals, the court heard.
